TEKO – AP Final exam project in Fashion Design

TRANSLATION: It was last summer I got my AP degree in Fashion Design from TEKO, but I haven’t showed you my exam project yet. It is really important for me to show both the process and the result of my work since this category on the blog is also used as an online portfolio. I hope you find it exciting to follow! :)

I chose to work with the Swedish brand Tiger of Sweden and I must mention that this was not a cooperation but instead my individual work that I developed through research and analysis of the brand and their design DNA. The collection is called “Fluid Elegance” and is inspired by architecture of Zaha Hadid who plays with fluid forms in her buildings. It is for season “A/W 2014”.

Design

TEKO - AP Final Exam, Fashion Design

TRANSLATION: My work usually begins and ends at the computer. First I do research and Design DNA analysis, target group descriptions and moodboards and I finish up with sales material for my developed collection.

Tiger of Sweden has been an incredibly interesting brand to work with for my final exam, but at times I have been under pressure because of their high standards. It is truly a brand that I am very fascinated by. My main focus has been on the fabrics and they have played a key role from the very beginning of the design process. It has been quite challenging to find fabrics that were both exclusive and interesting enough for this brand.

Tiger of Sweden is known for their very own design philosophy that they call “a different cut”. It refers to a concept that goes beyond what you can accomplish with scissors, fabrics, thread and stitches. I must underline that I have only come to like this brand even more since I have worked with it so intensively. :)

Construction/Sewing

TRANSLATION: I won’t get into too many details about the construction and sewing part, but I would like to emphasize that I did in fact do all the pattern designs and sewing myself! :) – I chose to sew two outfits; a suit with a blazer and a pair of shorts in fine wool from ITA textiles in Copenhagen, and a dress in sandwashed silk – this truly stretched my patience because this was a very lightweight and vivacious fabric to work with and required a lot of pins. I have emphasized high quality and a special cut (a different cut). You will notice this on the photos from my photoshoot under here. :)

TRANSLATION: So this was my project that ran over a period of two months where I worked with the design process from the very first idea to final product. I have been busy.. Oh, very busy! I did everything myself; design, construction, sewing, print and photoshoot! – yes, I even took my own photos for my lookbook. The project was concluded with top marks and it was the perfect ending on my design technologist education. Thank you so much for reading and following! :)

When I think about how far I have come in those 2 years on TEKO it is incomprehensible. I didn’t even know how to thread the sewing machine and I had never actually done any sewing. In return, I’ve drawn a lot and have had a huge interest in fashion and design and that was what got me to apply on TEKO in the first place. Thank you so much for reading and following!
